[Macwoburn] Comcast hookup

I'm using a D-Link DI-634M router in my network connected to verizon.
All my computers are Mac, but I have had visiting laptops and
everything works fine these days. But I'm currently using the router
unencrypted. For wireless access, I limit access by Mac address.
This works fine for me, but no wireless access computers ever do
anything that we are worried about being intercepted.
That said, for a while I was using WEP encryption (My laptop was
running 10.1 and that was the best it could do).
That was a few years back, so things are a little fuzzy. But I do
remember having problems setting up the encryption.
Now, if you are talking about the network password that the mac asks
for, I seem to recall that I had to put double quotes around the
password entered on the Mac. On the router, I did not - I could enter
it straight.
I could be wrong about the double quotes, but I do recall I had to
put something around the network password when entered on the mac.
good luck, hope this helps.

Hi,
Friends recently elected to go with Comcast as their ISP, also to
provide their phone service and TV. Initially they linked a PC to
their cable modem via an ethernet cable, and that worked fine.
Then they decided to add a Mac, on a lower floor, using a Linksys
wired/wireless modem/router. So, they've tied the Linksys to the
cable modem and wired the PC to it via an ethernet cable. And that
part worked fine.
But, on the floor below, although the Mac shows a strong signal and
can send a password to the Linksys, the password is always "invalid".
(Even though every possible password has been tried, in all spelling
variations.)
Is there some secret to making this system work?
