Subject: BMac-Q&A: Clearing out the old-Mac archive - an opportunity f or

My never-ending quest to reclaim space around my home has led me to a
decision to do a major cleanout of my assortment of ancient to just fairly
old Mac hardware, software and miscellaneous accessory material - manuals,
you name it. Some of this dates back to 1988 - the days of the SE, my first
Mac. My preference would be to donate the whole load to an entity that
would
be interested in preservation. I had had notions of doing this myself but
reality has bitten and it's clear that I have neither the time, inclination
nor the space to set this all up as an exhibit or to do anything useful
with
it. This is not junk (to a Mac enthusiast) - the machines work and will run
for whomever ends up with them; all have OS's and applicaton SW on them. I
don't have a catalog but off the top of my head I have one or sometimes
more
than one of the following CPUs. Some have Ethernet cards installed. I may
even have some others around I've forgotten about:
SE (I thinK)
SE/30 (definitely have one of these)
Iisi (several)
Iici (several, one with a Daystar Turbo 040 accelerator)
LC / LC II / LC III
6300 CD
7100/66
PB 180
PB180c (this one's in pieces - screen's shot)
PB 1400 with G3/233
PB 3400/180
Then there're the external SCSI drives:
128 MB MO drive (Epson mechanism) with cartridges
Assorted Apple CD 300 CDROMS
Several SCSI external drives including at least one Apple HDSC
A real prize: an original 1990 Supermac DataFrame 150 MB SCSI with an
updated ROM (so it will work on relatively recent hardware )and a carrying
case and a Micropolis mechanism (remember Micropolis?); worked when last
spun up a couple of yrs ago.
..and the non-SCSI drives:
Apple M0130 external 400K floppy
Apple 5.25" PC drive - for use with one their DOS/PC cards
..and the scanners:
PaperPort Vx, one with SCSI adapter, one without as I recall, both working
...Apple monitors
Several of the 12" RGB and one or several 13" RGB and a non-glare screen
for
one of the 13".
....software..... -
Won't try to list it all. Drivers, application software, utilities, on
floppy and CD including system software going way back. I used to subscribe
to something called Nautilus, a monthly multimedia "magazine" on CD (much
like the discs which MacAddict provides ) but back to 1990 - a true archive
of shareware and demos and games and just plain odds and ends. Have boxed
application sw w/the floppies and serial #s : Word, Freehand, Ilustrator,
PageMaker, many more that I've forgotten. Photoshop 2.5 and 3.0, boxed,
full
editions - Archive-suitable material: SuperLaserSpool, DiskFit,
MasterJuggler, White Knight, Crosstalk for Mac, SoftPC, you name it - a
huge
trove.
....printers.....
A couple of ImageWriter II
One ImageWriter LQ with a LocalTalk network card installed and its original
box and a nice dust cover for it
A couple of StyleWriter II
...modems....
I think there's at least one Practical Peripherals 2400 (2.4K), maybe a few
Supra FaxModems, a Global Village Teleport, a 56K Global Village PC card
type for the PB 1400.
...manuals......
Apple reference manuals for printers, etc. Books and reference material
back to system 6 days.
...and all the other stuff.....
Multiple large tubs of ADB keyboards, cables, internal SCSI drives mostly
checked out and verified as working (need a Rodime 20 to restore your SE?),
drive sleds, a few NuBus video cards, PhoneNet hardware, assorted RAM and
VRAM as well as bits and pieces of things that I can't recall or try to
name
all of including ADB cables, ADB mice in profusion, printer cables, all
sorts of parts. Speakers, Iisi NuBus adapters, various internal floppies
and
just plain junk - a Mac tinkerer's dream (or nightmare).
Basically I'm ridding myself of anything dating back to the days before the
Beige G3, which leaves me with more than enough assorted odds and ends to
keep me happy. I'm keeping my LaserWriter II, bought new as an NT in 1989,
upgraded to a Iig in the early 90s - it refuses to die, and so I figure I
owe it a place of honor on my network until it finally gives up.
If anyone (or a group of people) is willling to come and take it all away
that would be my preference. Not looking for payment though if the
taker(s)
were to cut a check to the Children's Hospital League in return for this
bounty it would be a kind gesture. I live in Needham. Drop me a line.
