Methinks that most companies who do not comply with the GPL do so knowingly under the assumption that they won't get found out; as such they would simply elect not to license the logo. Having to enter into a legal agreement (whether or not there's monetary cost) to use the trademark might be a disincentive to seek use of the logo even for some companies who might be pro-GPL and inclined to comply regardless. I'm not sure this really would solve anything... but it's an interesting idea, and may have other benefits for the free software community (like potentially making it easier to identify at least some vendors who use free code). -- Derek D.
