in trying to send out a fax using efax, i encountered a
puzzling error.  the modem is hanging on my serial port,
linked to /dev/modem, and seems to be configured properly,
in that minicom finds it and is able to dial out
satisfactorily (i.e. it rings my cell phone).

when i attempt to send out a fax using efax with the
command:

  efax -o e -o 1 -d /dev/modem -t T1810-454-1823 tx060216a.001

i get the following:

in dim recollection, i have run into this +FTM=? error
before, but not resolved it.  any help would be greatly
appreciated.
