as late as august, i was able to read and write to my
yamaha cdrom burner, but not now.  so far as i know, i have
made no real changes to the operating system (FC4) in the
interim.  either i've done something bad or something has
broken.

dmesg give the following:

this looks fine and is essentially what i got in august.
fstab includes no entry for cdrom1, but when i make one like this

  /dev/hdc  /media/cdrom  auto    pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
  /dev/sg1  /media/cdrom1 auto    pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0

and make directory /media/cdrom1, mount says it can't
determine the file system type, so i change it to iso9660
and mount says sg1 is not a block device.  the scanner
works fine as does the internal dvd/cdrom.

any thoughts, suggestions?
