i have two computers operating on a local net (a netgear wireless router) one my main server with all my files, and the other a satellite, both running FC2. if i ssh into the server from the satellite, using my standard user account, and then try to launch an X application, i get the following message: X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). thinking maybe my .Xauthority wasn't set up right, i read the man pages, used mkxauth -c to make it right, and set up .rhosts, all on both machines in my home directory. in addition i set up hosts.equiv as root on both machines - still no good. then, thinking maybe my firewall was limiting things, i took a look at that using system-config-security as root - and by gosh, that launched the X gui with no problem. hmmmm. it seems that as root, i can launch an X application back to the satellite with no .Xauthority at all. as you can see, i'm a linux user, not a sys admin, and haven't a clue as to what controls this. any suggestions would be much appreciated. tia, dan j. daniel moylan 84 harvard ave #2 brookline, ma 02446-6202 617-232-2360 (tel) 810-454-1823 (fax) jdm@moylan.info www.moylan.info
