ok, but then what?  i tried my ppp dialout script and that worked
fine, but when i went back to poke around with kermit,

(/root/) C-Kermit>set line modem

produced:
   Sorry, write access to UUCP lockfile directory denied.

whereas it had worked fine before.

i didn't see anything helpful in /var/lock or /var/run.
the ppp script must have generated a lock somewhere that
isn't letting go.  any idea where it might be?

and is there anything similar to efax that i might try to use
for sending out faxes?
