man gimp provides:
  -b, --batch <commands>
        Execute  the  set of <commands> non-interactively.
        The set of <commands> is typically in the form  of
        a  script  that can be executed by one of the Gimp
        scripting extensions.

well, that sounds good, but i really don't find much on-line
documentation of gimp to show how this is done.  perl gimp and
script-fu suggest that command line interaction is possible,
but will require much more reading of the $@!#$ manual than
i have been able to accomplish so far.
