You know David, I get caught up in ranting too easily...  Ultimately,
this was the point I was trying to make.

There is (IMO) a very good reason NOT to call Linux "GNU/Linux" -- it
pisses people off.  Especially people who've actually been in a room
with rms, having a conversation about free software; or who've been
corrected by him while giving a talk or just having a conversation; or
who've ever tried to rational discussion with him about why one should
or shouldn't use "GNU/Linux" when speaking generically of Linux
systems (I fall into the latter two categories).

He is abrasive, his tactics are offensive, and I agree that he is
detrimental to his cause.  Because of that, I think he drives people
away from the free software movement, and causes the free software
community to waste time arguing about silly issues like this one,
rather than focusing on the more important task of writing and/or
promoting free software.

To use the term "GNU/Linux" (ignoring the fact that it is a trademark
infringement) is to validate rms's arguments.  This only encourages
him to be obstinate and offensive, which does nothing to serve the
goals and philosophies he espouses.  In some ways, it makes him sound
like a hypocrite ("Use and modify our software freely, but be sure to
call it GNU!").  I think he needs a PR manager...
