-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 At some point hitherto, Bill Bogstad hath spake thusly: > The issue is whether Caldera is going to try to stop me from making > copies of GPLed binaries that are on the CD that I just bought at > BestBuy. Precisely. And if you re-read what Ransome said, he never said that redistribution would be prohibited. He can't, and he knows it. According to both the quoted article and a previous one, ALL source for programs which make up UnitedLinux will be provided in accordance with the terms of the GPL. There is, at this time, no reason to believe there will be any proprietary bits of that which is called UnitedLinux for which no source is distributed. You are not prohibited from redistributing those bits, only from calling the result UnitedLinux. Remember: UnitedLinux is only a base, agreed upon by several vendors, on top of which vendor-specific pieces will be added. The goal of this project is to provide the industry with a uniform base against which to develop, so that YOU, the user, don't have compatibility problems with those vendor-developed applications. - -- Derek Martin ddm@pizzashack.org - --------------------------------------------- I prefer mail encrypted with PGP/GPG!
