-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 At some point hitherto, Scott Prive hath spake thusly: > Hello, > > Could someone tell me why, if I create a crontab entry for my script > (or run it manually), it will work OK... but it will not run > properly if called via a symlink in /etc/cron.hourly. Hrmm... Well, I agree with Nathan -- your question could benefit from a bit more clarity. However, I'll take a stab at this anyway... I can think of three things that *might* cause a problem like what I think you're describing: 1. permissions on the program and/or the directories leading to it and/or permissions on /etc/cron.hourly 3. the entry in the system crontab which ordinarily would cause programs in /etc/cron.hourly to be run is missing 8. It's possible that run-parts (the program RedHat et. al. use to execute these programs) does not follow symlinks. Some programs that run with root privileges disallow this for security reasons. Note that I'm assuming "will not run properly" really means "will not run at all." If that's not the case, you'd do well to explain what you mean, and none of the above would apply. You'd have to provide more information. - -- Derek Martin ddm@pizzashack.org - --------------------------------------------- I prefer mail encrypted with PGP/GPG!
