i just sent a message to blu discuss, which may or may not get
posted, because i sent it from jdm@moylan.info when my membership
in the discussion group was for jdm34@cornell.edu (this has since
been corrected).

however, the problem i described, complaining of lack of
connectivity on a new rh7.3 installation, was due to a faulty
gateway address, which i have found and fixed.

please ignore that query.  sorry for the clutter.
