i've been trying to read and write sound files using sox, but have had success only with read (play). if i hand generate a sine wave in tst1.dat, and play it with sox, it works just fine: sox tst1.dat -t ossdsp -s -w /dev/dsp however, trying to record, produces only hum with a small dc offset, about 40 db down: sox -r 8000 -s -w -v 100 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp tst0.dat of course, this could be a faulty microphone (external, plugged into what looks like the microphone port), or something faulty in the sound sysem, but does anyone have any suggestions as to anything else i could try before i stumble out to buy more hardware? this is all taking place on an ibm thinkpad 380Z running rh7.1. tia, dan j. daniel moylan 84 harvard ave #2 brookline, ma 02446-6202 617-232-2360 (tel) 810-454-1823 (fax) jdm@moylan.info moylan.info
