i've had an olympus d340r digital camera for over a year, and have
been very pleased with it.  it was $300 at the time, 1.3 M pixels,
with a serial interface.  the 8 MB memory nominally holds 36 "high
quality" jpegs of about 200KB.   it downloads into linux using
photopc, got from www.average.org/ftp/photopc/.  the on-camera
controls are not too intuitive, or easily remembered, but otherwise
the camera seems to work just fine.

of course, olympus now offers optical zoom (which i would like) for
about the same price.

I've been getting more and  more  serious  about  getting  a  digital
camera, and of course I'd like one that can send its pics to my linux
box. Any advice on cameras to look for (or to avoid)? I'd assume that
the answers are totally different from what they were six months ago.
