Combining multiple jpegs into 1

There are a number of screen capture programs I've used on Linux,
KSnapshot, TheGimp, gnome-snapshot and a few others. I generally use
what I can think of at the time. 
The other day, we had to take a snapshot of a crashed system for a
partner, and I used my cell phone :-)
In this case, the 5 separate jpegs were ok. Combining them together
would have been more effective, but not really a problem/
