Win9x question...

It is probably important to note that windows (and unix) machines can
contain multiple names... eg.  NetBIOS name, DNS name

If this basic program is going to be run network-wide, you probably have a
server you can query for the name you want.

If it is a NetBIOS name:

You can grab it from a WINS server or from the registry.

DNS name:

DNS server or ipconfig /all
