No. I have not touched anything on this drive in question before I took 
action to fix this kernel panic problem.

My late discovery was that I have re-arranged the RAM, taking out some RAM 
cartridges and replace them with another reducing total RAM from 384MB to 
256MB.  However this box still works with another hard disk (WinME).

Have you had any idea how to fix the problem?
